Automated Linux Server Provisioning & Hardening
Systems Philosophy & Purpose
An idempotent Bash provisioning foundation engineered to turn fresh Ubuntu or Debian installations into security-hardened, production-ready systems capable of hosting critical workloads and containers in minutes. Applied across bare-metal dedicated servers, Proxmox VE hypervisors, and cloud instances.
Security & Operational Controls Implemented
- Perimeter Defense & Strict SSH: Password authentication revoked, PAM interactive login disabled, strict SSH key authorization enforced, and port reallocated to neutralize automated scanning botnets.
- Firewall & Container Network Isolation: Restrictive default UFW policies paired with custom
iptables/ufwchain rules to eliminate default container runtime bypasses that expose internal ports to the public internet. - Segmentation & Secure VPNs: Encrypted overlay networking and private administration tunnels with Tailscale, shielding management ports from the public internet.
- Collaborative Threat Intelligence: Automated CrowdSec integration for proactive blocking of brute-force attackers, bad actors, and coordinated distributed scans.
- Kernel-Level Hardening (sysctl): Network stack parameters tuned to resist SYN floods, IP spoofing, and resource exhaustion.
- Observability & Maintenance: Automated security patch cycles with
unattended-upgrades, container management via Portainer, and telemetry instrumentation for continuous health and performance monitoring.
